Okay, technically April is not summer but the April Fool's Run was just too good to pass on: sunny day, on the Sunshine Coast alongside a beautiful course. Sounds like a lovely plan right. The idea behind a summer half was to be able to train on sunny days, which didn't quite happen. Vancouver had an exceptionally snowy winter - running on spikes: not fun - and March was our wettest month in 61 years - getting soaking wet on long runs: equally not fun. Safe to say, training was a challenge. The fact that 4 weeks into training I got injured didn't help either. A rapid course of physiotherapy - dry needling in leg and back: not fun - and a serious decrease in running distances allowed me to at least be able to walk on my right leg again after a while. And then there was the actual course, 'brutal' in the words of my friend Keri, who is an actual runner, not a wannabe like me. Non-stop hills, headwind from out at sea... gotta love the Sunshine Coast! Despite all this I made it through and ran an - in my opinion - amazing time: 2 hours 14 minutes. Only 5 minutes slower than last year. And guess what, I plan to do this race again next year and get a PB! (Personal best, look at me talking like a runner already).
